This project proposes the calculation of the minimum DC-link capacitance in power factor correction single phase systems employing hysteretic current mode control for low total harmonic distortion (THD). The proposed design can be applied to the cascade connection of converters in which the source converter can be modelled as a loss-free resistor (LFR) and the load converter can be characterized as a constant power load (CPL). The value of the minimum capacitance is obtained as a function of voltage and frequency of the mains; maximum power transferred to the load converter and desired DC-link voltage. The resulting capacitance is ten times smaller than the one obtained by the conventional design. The theoretical predictions are verified by means of simulations and experiments.
